From the viewpoint of service companies, two major benefits of developing a game based on HTML5 is one source multi-use (Android and iOS) and no need to update a native application which embeds the game through WebView widgets. Updating native applications via application stores is quite burdensome since it degrades user’s satisfaction and hurts the proliferation of service upgrade patches. Even though its benefit is quite attractive, seriously commercializing HTML5 games have been hindered by severe fragmentations of HTML5 features and performance across mobile devices. In this presentation, we introduce various performance optimization techniques including canvas element manipulation, DOM/canvas hybrid object layering, GPU acceleration, image manipulation, and garbage collector tweaking. By combining all these techniques, OK Cashbag arcade service was commercially launched on September 12.
